  • Dementia affects 1% of adult population, 5% of people over the age of 65 (1 in 20 people) and 20-25% of people over the age of 80.  As the population is ageing, there are more elderly people than ever who suffer from memory loss symptoms, who require a formal assessment, diagnosis and treatment. 
  • The list of disorders assessed, identified and managed includes;

    2. Vascular dementia, due to strokes
    3. Lewy body dementia
    4. Parkinson’s disease dementia
    5. Fronto temporal dementia

Dementia Ward
Criteria for Dementia Admissions:
  • Dementia patients with challenging behaviour in the form of agitation and aggression, posing risk to others.
  • Dementia patients presenting with high risk to themselves (e.g. history of wandering, history of self neglect and history of accidental self damage).
  • Dementia patients with psychiatric symptoms such as paranoia and hallucinations, which are extremely distressing to them.
  • Dementia patients needing end of life (palliative care)

  • Difficulty sleeping (Promote good sleep)
  • Severe Pain (Pain relief and management)
  • Treatment of delusions and hallucinations
  • Yoga Therapy, Breathing Exercise & Meditation
  • Control of agitation and aggression
  • Nausea and vomiting (Hydration)
  • Constipation (relieve from it) & bladder care for urination
  • Anxiety & worries (Counseling and support)
  • Shortness of breath (Avoid distress through Oxygen and nebulizers)
  • Nutritional care (Oral and Intravenous feeding)
