Our multidisciplinary team is available from 10 AM to 7 PM, offering an alternative to hospital admission for individuals experiencing psychiatric issues.

Who Will Visit You?

Our HTT is composed of a team of highly skilled professionals, including:

• Psychiatric doctors
• Community psychiatric nurses
• Psychologists
• Psychiatric social workers
• Other mental health professionals trained to provide expert care.

Typically, a team consisting of a doctor or psychologist and a nurse will visit the patient at home, ensuring that care is delivered in the patient's familiar environment.

Where Will We See You?

Our service is community-oriented, with assessments and treatments carried out in the patient’s home. By offering care in this setting, we aim to reduce anxiety and eliminate the stigma often associated with seeking psychiatric help. This approach allows patients to receive the necessary care in a more comfortable and less formal environment.

What is the Aim of this Service?

The HTT serves as a gatekeeper to various psychiatric services, including potential admission to a psychiatric hospital. The primary goal is to provide Home-based assessments, support, and Treatments to help patients remain in their homes, avoiding unnecessary hospitalization.

Referral Criteria

The HTT assesses individuals across all age groups who are suspected of having mental health disturbances. Key referral criteria include:

• Anyone suspected of needing psychiatric assessment and treatment.
• The patient’s residence should be within 25 km of the team’s base at Shadithya Hospital, Pallavaram.

Goals of the Home Treatment Team

Crisis Intervention

We work with patients and families facing severe mental health crises, including those who are refusing treatment, to provide immediate support and care.

Psychiatric Emergencies

Our team is equipped to handle psychiatric emergencies, such as cases of suicidal ideation or violence towards others, ensuring timely and effective interventions.

Engagement with Resistant Patients

For individuals with long-standing mental illnesses who may have disengaged from psychiatric services, our team works patiently to build rapport, gain trust, and slowly re-engage them in treatment.

Post-Hospital Discharge Support

We offer long-term monitoring and support for individuals recently discharged from psychiatric hospitals, including administering depot medications and providing on going care to prevent relapse.
